Clinical Programs
Innovative technology has taken those of us who treat cancer to heights we once only imagined. At Allegheny General, the Department of Radiation Oncology continues to expand its role in cancer care by instituting highly sophisticated technologies, some of which we have been among the first in the country to utilize.
Our vast array of advanced therapeutic options allows us to tailor each patients treatment plan according to his or her specific needs. And by working in concert with surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, integrated medicine specialists and other health-care professionals, the radiation oncologists at Allegheny General are able to afford patients a cohesive, personalized treatment strategy. We provide treatments for patients with cancer of the brain, breast, cervix, colon, eye and orbit, head and neck, kidney, liver, lung, lymphatic system, ovaries, prostate, rectum, skin, soft tissue, testes and uterus, as well as for those with Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and musculoskeletal cancer.
With the breakthrough of advanced computer software and state-of-the art linear accelerator technology, our highly skilled radiation oncology team can administer numerous, high-dose radiation beams directly to a tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue and organs.
