Dr. Karlovits has been an attending radiation oncologist at Allegheny General since 2001. He completed a four-year residency at AGH, during which he achieved board certification in radiation oncology. His special area of interest is the use of stereotactic radiosurgery in the treatment of central nervous system neoplasms, and he is highly practiced in the use of three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Ttherapy (IMRT) and brachytherapy in the treatment of all types of cancer.
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Karlovits completed an internal medicine internship at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., and hyperbaric medicine training at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton, Conn. He then practiced as the hyperbaric medical officer at Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Ill, where he was a decorated physician for a Navy SEAL training detachment. He is a member of the American College of Radiation Oncology, American Medical Association and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, and is the Radiation Oncology Residency Program Director at AGH.
